KATSEYE is a six-member GLOBAL girl group under HYBE and Geffen Records. The group was made in collaboration with HYBE x Geffen Records for the survival show “The Debut: Dream Academy“ that aired on UA-cam last year from September-November. Their fandom name is EYEKON (Icon but spelled with EYE and K for con since both represent their group name KATSEYE. It is a metaphoric homophone essentially. Additionally, this is their second single released after their pre-release single "Debut" as they are gearing up for an EP album release dropping August 16th titled "SIS (Soft Is Strong)." (TOMORROW)! Furthermore, the 6 members of KATSEYE are Manon, Lara, Sophia, Yoonchae, Megan, and Daniela. They were the winning finalists of the survival show competition called “The Debut: Dream Academy” as mentioned prior. It was a very strenuous process and the show dealt with 20 contestants bottling down to the final 6. Originally, it went from 120K auditions - 20 contestants - 6 final members in that order. They had 3 missions including one FINAL mission that was part of the live finale which helped determine the final members and a lot of it was based on performance, vocals, and viewers’ participation in LIVE VOTING. So the final 6 girls you see here were chosen based on high rankings for all of those things including the judges’ rankings and public opinions. The girls even have a NETFLIX DOCU-SERIES releasing August 21st based on the whole dream academy up until now experience ... so from the very beginning. It is called "POP STAR ACADEMY: KATSEYE and they released the trailer recently. You shud watch the trailer and pls stay tuned for that as well. The purpose of KATSEYE was to introduce a more unseen diverse and cultural perspective from OTHER ethnic povs and standpoints of the world which is why a lot of people gravitated to the group’s purpose because many minorities found that many of the contestants looked like THEM and were from countries that are easily misrepresented and shadowed over in the media. That’s why one of the members, Lara made it so clear that she was fighting for her brown people and brown girls mainly because more brown people representation is NEEDED and it’s true. This global group experiment was DIFFERENT under KPOP MANAGEMENT and so the audience was different too and loud about it . Even Manon and Lara being there the FIRST EVER BLACK and BROWN idols in HYBE (a notable KPOP company) and one of the very few associated with a famous k-pop label is big… even though KATSEYE are not a kpop group but managed under a kpop company as well as an American company which is GEFFEN. And not even just that but more than half of the members in KATSEYE represent more than one nationality and /or ethnicity, while also being multi-lingual, so that really left a lot more of us in awe. So that’s a pretty big statement for a lot of us who can relate. The blindfolds are a cheese cloth like material so it is a little see through when it’s right up against your face, you can’t see clearly but you can make out shapes. Some other groups to check out are Bad Villain and Young Posse… some people don’t like Young Posse for whatever reason but I think they are a fun group that don’t get enough attention
